Why trust these rankings
Independent
No manufacturer influence and no sponsorships. Affiliate commissions fund the site and never affect how anything is ranked.
Certified numbers first
AHAM Verifide CADR figures are independently lab-tested. Units ranked on manufacturer claims alone are marked and score lower on certification.
Total cost, not sticker price
Every page shows filter cost per year and five-year cost of ownership, because filters often cost more than the unit.
Frequently asked questions
What is CADR? Clean Air Delivery Rate, in cubic feet per minute of filtered air, measured separately for smoke, dust and pollen. Smoke CADR is the hardest test and the one we rank on. Read CADR explained.
How big a purifier do I need? AHAM recommends a smoke CADR of at least two-thirds of the room's square footage (8-foot ceiling). A 300 sq ft room needs about 200 CADR. We show the AHAM room size on every page.
Are these rankings sponsored? No. We accept no payments, sponsorships or free units in exchange for placement.
